Lawrence v. Texas

The Supreme Court holds that a Texas statute criminalizing same-sex conduct is unconstitutional. Several years later in 2008, the California Supreme Court in In re Marriage Cases holds that sexual orientation is a protected class and laws prohibiting same-sex marriage are unconstitutional. In 2015 the Supreme Court held in Obergefell v. Hodges that same-sex couples have the fundamental right to get married.

Supreme Court expands Title VII protections

The United States Supreme Court expands Title VII protections to sexual orientation and gender identity in Bostock v. Clayton County & R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Homes Inc. v. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
